IEPL connections, relays and direct routes describe the general path from local access to the destination region; they are not simple quality tiers. Because cost, use case and network conditions differ, the best choice varies as well.

RELAY ROUTE

Relay route

A relay route first sends the connection to a more suitable access point, which then forwards it to the destination region. The intermediate node helps organize the path and can avoid some less favorable international interconnections. For home broadband, shared networks or access through different carriers, a relay often offers a balanced compromise between cost and connection quality.

A relay does not necessarily mean a shorter path. By adding a controlled step, it provides a more predictable exit direction. It suits everyday browsing, streaming, AI tools and ordinary file transfers, and makes it easy to switch between regions. If a relay entry point is unstable on your current network, try another structure in the same region before switching to a more distant city.

Direct route

A direct route travels from the current access network to the destination region without an additional relay entry point. Its simple structure and relatively manageable resource cost suit clear paths and well-defined destinations. For web browsing, research or services that do not depend on long-lived connections, direct access is often a convenient starting point.

Direct routes depend more heavily on interconnection between the local carrier and the destination region. The same city can perform very differently across networks, times and target websites. If pages respond inconsistently, video quality changes frequently or an office connection drops, try a relay or IEPL connection in the same region instead of treating geographic distance as the only deciding factor.

Start with a direct or relay entry point near the target website’s usual region. Once sign-in, page loading and file retrieval all work normally, keep using it. If the site has no clear regional requirement, an Asian entry point is often a quick way to assess local access quality.

Do not judge browsing only by whether the homepage opens. Also check signed-in pages, image assets, file URLs and third-party verification. Some sites serve the main page and static resources from different regions, so one successful load does not represent the entire session. When only certain resources fail, switching to another route in the same region is usually more targeted than moving to a distant region.

Streaming: regional matching matters more than the city name

Streaming platforms may use exit region, account details, content rights and application cache to determine the catalog shown. “Supported” in the route table means the entry can be used for streaming; it does not mean every platform or account will display the same content.
